Caldaro, Bolzano, all of Alto Adige.
Beauty is right outside your apartment.

Or at least within easy reach. The classics, such as Lake Caldaro, the Alto Adige Wine Road, Bolzano’s Oetzi the Ice Man or the hosts’ favourite places – we will be pleased to let you in on the secret of the places that, in our opinion, are worth a visit …

The Place of Power in the Troepfltal Valley
An easy trail passes right by our Refugium into the Troepfltal valley. About halfway along, in the middle of the Garnellenberg, there is a small bench. It is worth taking a seat, as the visual feast that is offered up here is utterly beyond compare, allowing your gaze to wander far and wide over the vineyards and Lake Caldaro. A place of power where the soul can truly breathe.

The Speckkeller
When we feel like honest, home-made food, we like to go to the Speckkeller in the centre of Pianizza di Sopra. The ambience here is wonderfully cosy, whilst the menu is straightforward but really good. And the home-made Schlutzkrapfen (ravioli) are an absolute hit!

The Ice Holes
Between Appiano and Caldaro, at the foot of the Gandberg mountain, there is a peculiar natural phenomenon. Cold air streams out of holes in the rock, providing cool refreshment even on hot summer’s days. The reason is a kind of wind tunnel system in the mountain that goes back to a post-glacial rock fall.

With Rita at the Seegarten
Admittedly, Lake Caldaro isn’t really a secret any more. Nevertheless, we keep on going back there! To “our” Rita at the Seegarten Restaurant. The food is first rate, but you can also relax and shoot the breeze about God and the world while you’re there. Right next to the water, surrounded by palms and mountain scenery.

Caldaro Market Square
Caldaro is one of the few villages in Alto Adige to have such a beautiful main square at the heart of the village. Inviting cafés line up alongside really good restaurants. It’s a great place for mingling and enjoying the colourful goings on over an espresso or a glass of Lake Caldaro wine.

The design development of the Refugium depicts the “experience” between Mediterranean material feel, visual experience of the forest environment and consideration for the territorial destination.
